(Gossip-Grind News) Nas’ “Time Is Illmatic” Documentary Purchased By Tribeca Film:

Nas’ “Time Is Illmatic” scheduled for release in theaters and on-demand this October. Weeks after serving as the opening film at last month’s Tribeca Film Festival, Erik Parker and One9’s Time Is Illmatic documentary has been picked up by Tribeca Film.

According to Complex, the film company has obtained the U.S. distribution rights to the film, which chronicles the making of Nas’ debut album, Illmatic.

With Tribeca Film in control of distribution rights for Time Is Illmatic, the documentary is now slated for release in theaters and on-demand this October.

“I want to thank Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal & the Tribeca Film family for all of the love & support they’ve given Time Is Illmatic. It is an honor to be in partnership with them. I feel there is a cultural kinship bonded by the city of New York,” Nas said in a statement.

During the premiere of Time Is Illmatic in April, which was attended by the likes of Raekwon and Robert De Niro, the film’s producer Erik Parker, spoke on the climate both today and during the making ofIllmatic.

“If you look at conditions then and now, not much has changed for the people Nas represented. But so much has changed in the world,” he said while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. “What was important for us to tell is that Nas is a genius, but he’s one of just a few that made it out.”

Directed by One9 and written by Erik Parker, Time Is Illmatic includes appearances from Nas, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Alicia Keys, and more.
