(Gossip-Grind News) Aaron McGruder Was Not Involved With New Season Of “The Boondocks”:

“The Boondocks” will return for its fourth season next month. It will be its final one as well as its first without creator Aaron McGruder.

A press release from Sony Pictures Television revealed the surprising news of McGruder’s absence from his famed series’ goodbye run.

“[Season four] was produced without the involvement of Aaron McGruder, when a mutually agreeable production schedule could not be determined,” it says.

Although unmentioned, it is possible that McGruder’s creation of a new upcoming series may have been a factor. “Black Jesus” is a live action show that will focus on Jesus’ adventures in Compton, Calif. It’s slated to premiere this fall on Adult Swim.

“The Boondocks” originally started as a comic strip in 1996 on The Diamondback, the student newspaper at the University at Maryland, McGruder’s alma mater. The strip gradually gained popularity and moved from the college newspapers to The Source hip-hop magazine. In 1999, “The Boondocks” made its national debut when it was picked up by Universal Press Syndicate.

McGruder sold television and film rights to Sony Pictures Entertainment and the animated series made its debut on Adult Swim on Nov. 6, 2005. Uncle Ruckus, a character introduced in the television series, was soon written into the comic series in an attempt to syncronize the two, but the comic was cancelled in 2006.

The animated version of “The Boondocks” has been met with solid acclaim, winning a Peabody Award for the “Return of the King” episode.

The same press release also revealed some of the upcoming season’s plot points, which includes a love affair with Siri, a long lost Kardashian, and the black market of hair care (think “Breaking Bad”). Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Mo’Nique, and Charlie Murphy are some of the many who will make guest appearances.

The final season of “The Boondocks” begins airing on April 21.
