2 Live Crew’s Fresh Kid Ice Dead At 53

(Gossip-Grind) 2 Live Crew’s Fresh Kid Ice Dead At 53:

Christopher Wong Won, better known by his stage name Fresh Kid Ice died early Thursday morning (July 13). Fresh Kid Ice was one of the founding members of the controversial Miami based rap group 2 Live Crew. The rapper was receiving treatment for an unknown medical condition at the time of his death. He was 53.

Fresh Kid formed the legendary hip-hop crew 2 Live Crew alongside DJ Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee in California in 1984. The group released it’s first single, Revelation, in 1985. The single was very popular in Florida, prompting the group to relocate to Miami (sans Amazing Vee). Brother Marquis and Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell joined the group once they got to Miami, forming the crew’s most popular line-up. The 2 Live Crew’s debut album, The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are, was released in 1986 and was certified gold.

Fresh Kid Ice was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, later moving to Brooklyn, NY with his family at the age of 12. In 1982 he joined the U.S. Airforce and was stationed at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California where he met Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee. In 1988 he was involved in a car accident that caused him to lose mobility in his left arm.

The 2 Live Crew’s third album As Nasty As They Wanna Be was released in 1989, becoming the first album to ever be deemed legally obscene by the US government.
